Independent Support Worker · Sydney, NSW
Hi, I’m Ali.
Four years in. Still learning. Still showing up. I’m not your average support worker. I’ve invested in myself so I can give the best of myself to every participant I work with. Here’s my story.

My Journey
From the industry to independence.
I didn’t start out independent. I spent years working across a wide range of service providers — including Supported Independent Living homes — before I made the decision to go out on my own. I worked for some great organisations and some questionable ones. Every experience taught me something.
What I noticed early on was that quality training makes a world of difference in support work. Not one service provider I worked for ever invested in behaviour support practitioner training for their staff. I saw the gap it left. So I made it my personal mission to fund that training myself — out of my own pocket — because I believed the people I supported deserved better.
Enneagram Type 2
🧡 Born to be a Helper.
Years ago I took a personality test to understand myself better and align my path with who I truly am. The result was Enneagram Type 2 — The Helper. Type 2s are deeply generous, empathetic and supportive, driven by a genuine desire to be there for others. They put the needs of people around them first, naturally. When I saw that result I wasn’t surprised — I was validated. It confirmed what I already felt. Helping people isn’t just what I do. It’s who I am.
What I Bring
Meeting people where they’re at.
Over four years I’ve worked with children and adults across a wide range of disabilities — ASD, psychosocial, intellectual, and more. My approach has always been the same: meet the participant where they’re at in life and build from there.
I’ve supported participants who were moving houses and needed structure built around the transition. I’ve supported participants experiencing homelessness and helped them establish routine in the most uncertain of circumstances. Whatever the situation, I show up with the training, the patience, and the genuine care to make a real difference.
Structure and stability aren’t just words to me. They’re the foundation of everything I do.
What’s Coming
Building something bigger.
The training gap I experienced early in my career is what’s driving me to build the ADA Support Worker School Community — a space where support workers can access the kind of development that no service provider ever gave them. Live workshops, peer connection, free resources, and real talk from someone who’s been in the trenches.
It’s coming soon. And it’s going to change how support workers show up for their participants.
What I Stand For
The values behind every session.
Structure & Stability
Every participant deserves consistency. I build real routine and structure wherever a participant is at in life — not just when things are easy.
Continuous Learning
I invest in my own development through behaviour support practitioner training because the people I support deserve the best version of me every single session.
Genuine Connection
I take every participant for a meet and greet before we start — a coffee, or flying a drone. Getting the relationship right from day one is everything.
Meeting People Where They’re At
Whether a participant is thriving or in their hardest chapter, I show up without judgement and work with what’s in front of us.
Honest Communication
I keep coordinators and families informed without them having to chase me. Clear, professional and responsive — always.
Quality Over Compliance
I’m not here to tick boxes. I’m here to create real, lasting change in the lives of the people I support.
